Opt Out of Everything List

mrgan:

You all know Tim, right? Tim of Panic support, of Panic Sale, of Cabinessence? He’s put together a brief little page of links to various legitimate, trusted opt-out websites. Make a quick run through these and dramatically decrease the amount of nonsense people throw at your porch, phone, and inbox. Good luck!

An Experiment In Cord Cutting (by Hill Holliday)

Some interesting insight on why internet/tv has yet to catch on in mainstream america. Their complaints are valid.

-It’s buggy

-They want something curated

- It lacks the spontaneity/discover process of regular tv

-The content isn’t there yet, or if it is, it’s all too spread out and fragmented to merit the effort of something that’s a traditionally passive experience.

You can remedy some of this with queues and sharing but to some people that will start to feel like a pile of books on their nightstand (guilt) instead of a leisurely activity. You could argue that these people are lazy or uninspired but I think there’s something about storytelling here. We all love stories in one way or another but it’s pretty rare to have more than a vague notion of what story you want to hear. That’s part of the magic, you want a world to be built for your viewing and you’d like an invitation. Anything beyond that breaks with the role of audience member that we’ve grown very comfortable with.

‘In America, Amazon review-watching is a sport. There have been some fantastic indiscretions. One ex-wife of an American author put the history of his infidelities in her review of his book. It was breathtaking.’
